RICKY WINS AT PEMBREY!!! But gremlins and a shunt see him loose the 2011 title....

This weekend just gone saw the trucks battling it out at the penultimate meeting of the 2011 BTRA Championship. Rick's weekend started off with gremlins striking and causing him some gearbox problems. This resulted in Ricky only being only able to secure fourth in the first race but things were to change.... Some for the good... and some for the not so good...

After a night of burning the midnight oil changing the gearbox in his trusty steed, Ricky was starting from the back of the grid. With the weather grey, murky and drizzle in the air the race began. Ricky, racing in his favourite weather conditions threw caution to the wind and drove with skill and flare to enthral the fans of the turck racing at Pembrey with the best performance of the season by any driver!! Ricky went from first to last!!!! Ricky had the hammer down hard and demolished the field and then on the final lap he overtook the championship leader, David Jenkins on the last few corners of the last lap!!! This was all done with his gearbox stuck in top gear!

The last championship race of the season saw disaster strike... Ricky managed to get the better of David Jenkins once again on the escape from the infamous Hatchetts Hairpin to come out with a few truck lengths ahead of the pack. Then gremlins reappeared again...

Coming out of the second to last corner Ricky's engine died and he was forced to coast of the track onto the grass. Then his good friend, Terry Gibbon (who was having his own troubles with under-steer) ran wide too and sadly hit Ricky. This knocked him completely out of the race and the rest of the weekend...

Rick's now getting his MAN truck rebuilt for the last outing at Brands Hatch at the end of the month where he will be determined to secure his second place in the championship and also not allow Dave Jenkins to run away in the finale!

Once again Ricky is out demonstrating the Titians of Motorsport at the picturesque Anglesey Circuit.

Over this weekend just gone the tranquil serenity of Caernarfon Bay on Anglesey was shattered by thunder of racing trucks as Rick and Dave Jenkins were participating in yet another Modified Live event! The two drivers put on a fantastic show of formation drifting much to the delight of the crowd. Ricky also took his wife, Cath out for a quick spin! Thunder at Thruxton as Ricky takes 3 podiums to close the gap on Championship leader Dave Jenkins!

This weekend saw the Thunder Gods racing at Thruxton. Ricky was in fighting form all weekend as Class A was bolstered by addition of two new race trucks from Terry Gibbon and Ben Horne.

Qualifying saw Ricky pop his MAN truck on to the front row along side his arch rival Dave Jenkins. At the start of the first race on Saturday, Terry Gibbon got the drop on Rick and dropped him to third but only briefly. Ricky managed to reclaim his second position when a power steering fault forced Terry to slow his pace but Ricky had no answer to the flying Dave Jenkins. This was the first of 3 podiums for Ricky over the weekend.

Race two on the Sunday morning saw those gremlins rear their ugly heads again. Rick was having smoking issues again and decided to lift off and take it easy to stop a repeat of what happened at the Nürburgring... Another exclusion would be disastrous for Ricky's title hopes. Rick deciding its better to take some point rather than no points at all!!

Race three saw some action the benefitted Ricky! At the start Terry Gibbon caught Dave Jenkins napping and edged ahead into the lead. With Ricky knowing that Dave Jenkins and Terry Gibbon would be battling for the lead he decided to play the quite man and loiter just behind them and see if they did something that would give him an opportunity to strike back. Ricky's gamble paid off!!! Dave Jenkins tried a move round the outside of the notorious Club Chicane and Terry was having none of it. This resulted in a clash of the titans that unsettled Dave Jenkins, giving him a big over-steer moment. This resulted in Dave having to escape to the pit lane to avoid hitting the wall. This bumped Ricky up to second and demote Dave to third. This also clawed him some points back in the Championship title battle.

The race was sadly curtailed after only five laps due to a bizarre incident. Dave Smith had pulled off the track on a previous lap and had set fir to the grass! This lead the race controller to stop the race due smoke blowing across the track... Much to amusement and dismay of the drivers!

Next it is on to Pembrey in Wales over the weekend of the 8th and 9th October.

A bad weekend at the Ring for Ricky...

This weekend just gone it was time for the BTRA to make it's run out to the legendary Nürburgring in Germany. Unfortunately this turned out to be a bad one for Rick in his title championship battle with David Jenkins. In the first race of the weekend Rick had a trip thru the pit lane due to the truck producing to much smoke and this sadly lead Rick to be excluded from the race. This left Ricky languishing at the back of the grip for Sunday's race. This is when things then went from bad to worse...

In the second race on the Sunday the heavens opened up and this saw the grid lining up on a very wet track. This was to Rick's delight as he cherishes racing in this kind of conditions. Things seemingly started to turn Rick's way at the start of the race due to his title rival, Dave Jenkins causing bedlam at the first corner by spinning. The enabled Ricky to overhaul the majority of the slower Class B trucks but sadly this was when disaster struck. At turn two, Carl Brookfield spun right in front of Rick. This gave Ricky nowhere to go and he had to sit there and wait for the track to clear before he could pull out and get back to racing! Sadly this saw Ricky left at the back of the pack again with a herculean task ahead of him. Rick gritted his teeth and got the hammer down to go and chase the leaders down, then disaster struck for a second time. An incident involving the Scammel race truck brought out the red flags and stopped the race just after 5 out of the 13 scheduled laps...

All in all a bad weekend at the Nürburgring for Ricky and the team.

Mechanical gremlins strike at the FIA...

Rick's weekend at the opening rounds of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship at the legendary Donington Park started out slowly but surely as he started to improve on his laps and he was getting faster and faster when the gremlins were let loose and disaster ensued for the first time. During qualifying on Saturday he was forced to pull out of qualifying when his gear shifter snapped! With a herculean effort from Ricky and the team they managed to repair to get Rick out just in time for the first race. Sadly all their hard work and effort was for nothing as during the race Rick's turbo pipe came off and he was loosing air. This forced him to pull out...

The rest of the weekend was not to go well for Rick as sadly he had more mechanical failures. In the second race on the Saturday a damper mounting failed which lead to him having a spectacular off at Goddards Chicane, actually going sideways through the gravel trap but Ricky came back out fighting!! He had José Bermejo right along side him as well as his main rival in the BTRA championship, Dave Jenkins taking to the grass in a bid to get past both Ricky and José! In the third race of the weekend Ricky's troubles were far from over and during this race his Engine Control Unit decided to stop functioning. This forced Rick to pull off on to the grass, jump out of the cab and reset the the ECU by switching the engine kill switch off then back on, then jump back into the cab and start racing again – all this to the delight of the crowd who then started to cheer for Ricky!! He then proceeded to give the crowd a real show as he set off in pursuit of Dutchman Erwin Kleinnagelvoort. On the way he treated them to some amazing sideways driving as he drifted round the Craner Curve – one of the fastest corners at Donington Park! This left Rick with many fans in the crowd.

Welsh woes for Ricky...
With fantastic weather the track looked sublime for the up and coming battle of the titans. Ricky Collett went into the weekend full of confidence that was sadly dashed. Rick was struggling to find grip in his MAN TGA Race Truck. In the first qualifying session Ricky was only a whisker away from his main rival Dave Jenkins on the timing sheets but during the championship races the lack of grip meant Ricky had to settle for second in both events. Despite a valiant attempt by the team to set the truck up to give Ricky more grip. Sadly this handed Dave Jenkins a clean sweep and increased his lead in the championship to 6 points. Although Ricky never lost his confidence throughout the weekend.

It's now onto the opening rounds of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship at Donington Park over the weekend of the 23rd & 24th April.

Richards 2011 Campaign begins at Brands Hatch with two second places!

Last weekend Richard was at the head of the charge for the opening battle of the 2011 BTRA Championship.

Over the weekend Richard had some very close racing with his main title rival and arch nemesis David Jenkins! Despite the pair of them only being separated by hares whisker on the timing sheets Richard had to settle for two second places due to an unfortunate gearbox problem but in the last race of the day he secured an extra point for the fastest lap. This leaves Richard only two points behind David Jenkins in the Class A championship.

It's is now on to Pembrey in South Wales for rounds three and four of the championship.
